This stunning one-of-kind couture wedding dress, style "Nefertiti," will make you feel like a fairytale princess and take everyone's breath away! Max Chaoul is a French designer from Lyon, France, and the dress was purchased from his couture studio in Cannes, France, in Spring 2005. Following is a link to the store's web site with photos of Max in front of the store. In the first few photos, you can actually see the Nefertiti dress in the window on the right: http://www.maxchaoulcouture.com/STORES/CANNES/index.html. Only PayPal transfers or wire transfers will be accepted and subject to confirmation. Serious buyers only.
The Story
I wasn't engaged at the time (but expecting a proposal soon!) when I passed by a boutique in Cannes while there with my boyfriend for a convention in April of 2005. The most gorgeous and unbelievable wedding dresses were displayed in the window of Max Chaoul, and as I stood there in awe, an associate persuaded me to come in and try on a "fairy princess" dress. I was dressed so casually and was on my way to take the train to sightsee in Monaco for the day not at all thinking about trying on wedding dresses. But it was just so beautiful that I couldn't resist -- and I fell in love! I looked and felt like a "fairy princess" and wanted the dress with all my heart, but I felt like I needed some feedback. I couldn't show it to my boyfriend, so I called a local young woman we'd met at dinner the night before (who had kindly given me her number and offered to show me around while my boyfriend was working) and scheduled a time to meet her at the boutique. Johanna and her mom met me there while I tried on the dress, and they were blown away and said that it was the most amazing bridal gown. So I bought it! They took my measurements and said that it would be ready in about a month -- which is exactly when I was scheduled to return with my boyfriend for the Cannes Film Festival. Luckily, a proposal came a few nights later in the village of Mougins :-)
I had the skirt accented with my favorite color, so lavender tulle panels were added. In the US, I purchased violet silk flowers to be applied by hand to the bustier bodice by a bridal seamstress in the South Bay. Two photos are of the original design from fashion mags and two are from the altered gown. You can either keep the additions or remove them to return to the original look or change it to your taste.
I'm not really a fashionista and had never heard of Max Chaoul, but I soon learned that his award-winning bridal and evening gown creations were beloved among Europeans. You can search his name on the Internet and see all of his beautiful designs and rave reviews. Even today, I don't think you can buy his designs in the United States, unless you find something pre-owned.
The dress should comfortably fit someone Size 6, approximately 125-130 lbs. I was about 135 lbs with a 34-36C bust size at the time and it was too tight, so the dress did not lace in the back to a full close, although the look worked. I'm just under 5' 4" and wore the dress floor length, but a bridal dressmaker could shorten or lengthen it pretty easily by adding or cutting tulle. I paid 4400 Euros in May 2005, which was approximately US $5,500. It has been professionally dry-cleaned by a member of Association of Wedding Gown Specialists and is in a Museum Care Preservation box, stored in a non-smoking home, and comes with a dual-length veil (medium in front, long in back). It is still the most unique and incredible wedding dress I have ever seen ANYONE wear at any wedding, and you will not believe how gorgeous you will feel and how many compliments you will receive. It is the perfect dress for your perfect day. Also, in case you are superstitious, the wedding was a spectacular evening and I have a wonderful marriage and two children.
May it bring someone as much (or more!) happiness as it brought to me.
I also have the most amazing matching shoes by Rene Caovilla that I bought days before the wedding at Neiman Marcus, which I will hold for the potential wedding dress buyer at $500. In the event they are not a suitable size, I will sell separately. Additional dress and shoe photos are available.
